Steps to Get Started
Step 1: COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM
The first step is a comprehensive eye exam to determine the health of your eyes and if contact lenses or glasses are needed. If you’ve already had this done at another office, we will need those records at least 24 hrs prior to your appointment. This ensures we do not repeat any testing that has already been done by your doctor. We welcome referals from other providers, occupational and speech therapists, or you can refer yourself! If a comprehensive vision exam has not been performed in the last 3 months, we are happy to see you at Eyes on Cypress.
Step 2: BINOCULAR VISION ASSESSMENT
This appointment is approximately 45 minutes long and involves an in depth look at how your eyes are working together as a team, tracking, measuring depth perception and binocular vision. This sometimes involves the use of special optical prisms. At the end of this exam, Dr. Pitts will discuss with you whether we should pursue further testing to determine if you are a candidate for an individualized vision therapy program. This visit can sometimes be covered on your major medical insurance but is not covered on vision plans.
Step 3: VISUAL PERCEPTUAL EXAM
This appointment is approximately 1.5-2 hours long and is performed by our vision therapist. In this portion of the assessment, we perfom multiple hands-on visual motor activities to assess visual processing, gross motor and visual perceptual skills. The results of this battery of testing will be scored and gone over with Dr. Pitts at a separate visit.
Step 4: CONSULT WITH DR. PITTS
After testing is complete Dr. Pitts will review all testing results and give a detailed report explaining testing diagnoses, possible accommodations needed for school or work, and an individualized vision therapy plan if recommended.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THESE VISITS DO NOT OCCUR ON THE SAME DAY AND WILL REQUIRE DIFFERENT APPOINTMENTS. PLEASE CONTACT OUR OFFICE WITH ANY QUESTIONS.
